It’s pumpkin spice season. However much I love summer I do love "Fall" in the USA as well. Decorations and the delicious smell of those spices surround you even if it's still pretty hot from the last days of summer :) This little transition period from September to October is a little confusing actually. But right before October hits, it's gorgeous leaves and leaf decorations, pumpkin patches, delicious apple treats, casseroles, corn maizes, Halloween, Thanksgiving and so many other activities in between.
And then of course there is the famous PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte) that truly is the kick off to season even if the official first day of Fallhas not yet come. I do not like pumpkin but I do love the PSL. In the spirit of the PSL, I wanted to make an after school fall treat for my 4 yr old. I decided to try to make some steamed frothy milk with a slight hint of pumpkin spice, vanilla and maple syrup.
The Blendtec, and I am sure any equally high speed blender, works wonders to create frothy steamed milk. Simply add the milk and all the ingredients, close the lid and blend on high for 2 x 90 second intervals. The volume increases due to the foam that forms on the top and the milk heats up due to the high speed. Allow to cool slightly to a safe temperature before serving to kids.
I used pre-mixed pumpkin spice which is simply made up of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger/all spice and cloves. It's just so readily available that I didn't attempt to mix it myself. I used maple syrup to add some sweetness and pure vanilla extract to enhance the smell and taste.
My son LOVED it. You may increase or adjust quantities to taste. I wanted to give just hints of flavor that were not too over powering for him.
